Skanska AB Secures Major International and Domestic Contracts Amid Leadership Transition

Skanska AB, the Swedish construction and engineering firm, has announced the signing of several high‑value contracts that are expected to strengthen its order book in the coming years. The company secured a substantial agreement with the Norwegian hydropower operator Hydro for the construction of a pumped‑storage plant in Luster municipality, valued at approximately nine hundred million Swedish kronor. In parallel, Skanska was awarded a large data‑centre construction contract in the United States, with a projected cost of around two and a half billion kronor. The U.S. project, scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026, will encompass the full spectrum of building work and technical fit‑out.

On the domestic front, Skanska has been selected as the main contractor for a major renovation of the Operabygden building in Stockholm. The project is described as the most extensive undertaking of its kind for the Swedish National Property Board, underscoring the company’s significant presence within the Swedish market.

Leadership Update

In addition to expanding its project pipeline, Skanska announced a change in its finance function. Pontus Winqvist has been appointed chief financial officer, succeeding Jonas Rickberg. Winqvist, who has held several senior positions within the group for many years, will join the executive committee today. The appointment follows a period of transition within the company’s top management and is intended to reinforce financial governance and strategic execution.

Market Context

These developments arrive against a backdrop of modest gains in the broader Stockholm market, with the OMXS30 index rising in recent trading sessions. Skanska’s order wins and leadership update are likely to be viewed positively by investors, signaling the firm’s continued activity both domestically and internationally.
