RTX Corporation has secured a significant multi‑year contract from the U.S. Department of War to increase production of its Advanced Medium‑Range Air‑to‑Air Missile (AMRAAM) system. The agreement, valued at up to $20.7 billion, will require the company to raise annual output to at least 1,900 units and supports a five‑year term with two optional extensions. This deal is part of the Pentagon’s “Arsenal of Freedom” initiative, aimed at replenishing stockpiles that have been drawn down by recent conflicts.
RTX has already doubled its AMRAAM production in 2025 compared with the previous year, investing heavily in workforce expansion, supply‑chain enhancements, and new manufacturing facilities. The missile, now in its fifth generation, is fielded by a broad coalition of 44 countries and has proven its effectiveness in over 7,000 live‑fire tests. The new contract will allow the company to scale production to record‑setting levels, ensuring a steady supply to the U.S. Air Force, Navy and international partners.
The announcement follows a series of similar contracts awarded to major defense contractors, including a sizeable Patriot interceptor deal for Lockheed Martin. While the Pentagon has committed to accelerating production, Congress has not yet appropriated the full funding needed to support the entire multi‑year commitment, meaning RTX may need to await legislative action before fully committing capital to the expansion.
On the market side, shares of RTX experienced modest movement following the announcement, reflecting investor attention to the company’s continued investment in high‑priority defense capabilities amid evolving geopolitical demands.
