Corporate Developments in Vehicle Leasing, Banking and Share Buy‑backs

Ayvens SA, the vehicle‑leasing division that emerged from the merger of ALD Automotive and LeasePlan, has released a cost‑comparison study that underscores the growing competitiveness of electric vehicles (EVs) for corporate fleets. Even in high‑cost markets such as Switzerland, the study shows that over multi‑year horizons the total cost of ownership (TCO) of EVs is narrowing against conventional internal‑combustion vehicles (ICVs). This trend reinforces the broader shift toward cleaner fleets, driven by regulatory incentives, declining battery costs and increasing charging infrastructure.

Simultaneously, two leading French banking groups have announced a memorandum of understanding that will transfer the retail custody and account‑keeping functions of Société Générale Securities Services (SGSS) to Crédit Mutuel Arkéa. The transaction will be executed through Crédit Mutuel Arkéa’s subsidiary ProCapital, positioning it as the new provider for the retail segment of SGSS, including the online banking and private‑banking services. Both parties describe the deal as consistent with their strategic refocusing on wholesale clients and a broader push into white‑label banking solutions. The transaction is slated for completion in 2028.

In parallel, Société Générale has continued its share‑buyback programme, reporting that a substantial portion of the announced purchases has been completed in the first half of March 2026. The company’s share‑purchase activity reflects ongoing efforts to support shareholder value within its broader investment strategy.

These developments illustrate a sector in flux. Vehicle‑leasing firms are accelerating electrification, while banking groups are restructuring their retail operations and sustaining shareholder returns. The convergence of cost efficiencies, regulatory pressures and strategic realignment across these industries highlights a broader economic shift toward sustainability, digital transformation and capital optimisation.
