Corporate Update: East Star Resources Plc Advances Rulikha Copper Project in Collaboration with Nova Ltd.
East Star Resources Plc has announced a significant milestone in its Rulikha Copper Project, a joint venture with Kazakh partner Nova Ltd. The company confirmed that all requisite permissions for drilling on Licence 3631 have been secured, and a drill rig has been mobilised to the site, with operations commencing on 5 October 2026.
Initial Drilling Programme
The inaugural drilling programme will comprise five holes across two designated target areas, spanning a total length of approximately 1,500 metres. This effort is aimed at validating historically logged mineralisation and bringing the project closer to a defined resource estimate. The selected drill holes cover the bulk of the exploration area outlined by earlier drill logs, ensuring a focused approach to resource confirmation.
Strategic Partnership Framework
The progress follows a binding Heads of Agreement (HOA) signed on 1 September 2026. Under the terms of the HOA, Nova Ltd. will take responsibility for advancing the project into development and, ultimately, production—at no additional cost to East Star. Once the mine achieves production, East Star anticipates retaining a stake between 25 % and 35 % of the producing operation.
CEO Alex Walker expressed satisfaction with the rapid procurement of drilling approvals and the swift commencement of work. He noted that the current programme targets the critical segments of the exploration area, reinforcing confidence in the project’s potential.
Broader Strategic Context
While the announcement focuses on operational milestones, it underscores East Star’s broader strategy of forging partnerships with both local and international entities to develop copper and gold resources across Kazakhstan. The Rulikha joint venture is part of a portfolio that includes other projects and a strategic gold exploration partnership, illustrating the company’s commitment to diversified resource development.
No specific financial figures were disclosed in the release. The emphasis remains on the tangible progress of drilling activities and the partnership framework that underpins the project’s future development trajectory.
