Corporate Governance and Strategic Restructuring at Andean Silver Limited
Board and Leadership Transition
Andean Silver Limited (ASL) has formally announced a comprehensive set of board and management changes designed to accelerate the development of its Cerro Bayo silver‑gold project in southern Chile. The most significant shift is the retirement of Chairman David Southam, whose tenure will conclude on 31 October 2026. In the interim, Ray Shorrocks—a long‑time director—will assume the role of chair until a permanent successor is appointed.
ASL is actively considering the addition of new directors possessing deep South‑American development expertise as well as experience in North‑American capital markets. This dual focus is intended to broaden the board’s strategic perspective while ensuring that the company’s growth trajectory remains aligned with both regional operational realities and global investment expectations.
Management Reorganisation
The reorganisation places an explicit emphasis on project studies and operational readiness. Key appointments include:
| Position | New Appointee | Background | Key Responsibilities |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Manager, Cerro Bayo | Alvaro Fuentes | Former senior executive at KGHM and Ausenco South America | Oversight of strategy, permitting, and execution planning for the Cerro Bayo asset |
| Manager, Mine Development & Feasibility Planning | Paul Murphy | Over 20 years mining experience | Coordination of multidisciplinary study programme, including scoping and feasibility studies |
| General Manager, Strategy & Growth | Tim Laneyrie | Transition from Technical Director | Strategic planning, growth initiatives, and integration of new development opportunities |
| Advisory Role, Special Projects | Damien Koerber | Strategic consulting expertise | Advisory on special projects and emerging initiatives |
This structure is engineered to streamline decision‑making, accelerate the study pipeline, and position the company to transition from exploration to production more efficiently.
Technical and Exploration Initiatives
ASL has contracted Pares & Alvarez, a Chilean engineering firm, to conduct an initial gap analysis of Cerro Bayo’s project readiness. The gap analysis will delineate the scope for a scoping study and, subsequently, a feasibility study scheduled for the calendar year 2027.
Concurrently, exploration and resource definition activities remain vigorous. Six drill rigs are currently deployed across multiple target areas, including greenfields, extensions, and infill zones, to refine resource estimates and support future development planning.
Strategic Objectives
The leadership and technical shifts are aligned with ASL’s overarching objective of advancing Cerro Bayo toward a potential production restart. By reinforcing the board and management with targeted expertise, ASL intends to:
- Accelerate Project Studies – Rapidly progress from gap analysis to feasibility, ensuring that permitting and operational requirements are met in a timely manner.
- Strengthen Resource Growth – Continue exploration to enhance the resource base, thereby improving the project’s economic viability.
- Maintain Robust Development Pathways – Build a development pathway that balances production readiness with regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship.
These changes underscore ASL’s commitment to delivering a clear, evidence‑based pathway for Cerro Bayo’s development while preserving strategic flexibility and ensuring stakeholder confidence.
